Fans of Little House on the Prairie will enjoy this route which includes Laura Ingalls Wilder’s birthplace and explores the area depicted in the first of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s books, Little House in the Big Woods.  The Laura Ingalls Wilder Route is located in the hills and valleys along the western shore of the Chippewa river between Menomonie, WI and the Mississippi River. These hills and valleys provide fun roads with lots of twists and turns. The hilltops also provide excellent vistas of the surrounding countryside.  The L.I.W. route also approaches the Chippewa river in several places and nears the Mississippi River in Pepin, Wisconsin.  There are many points of interest along this route, including the Devil’s Punchbowl, Riverside Park and Waterfall near Menomonie, the Laura Ingalls Wilder museum in Pepin, the UFO Capital of Wisconsin in Elmwood, and the Mailman Haunted Castle in Elk Mound.
