March 25th Update, Spotlight on: Kettle Moraine Route!

This weeks spotlight is on a great ride in Eastern Wisconsin called the Kettle Moraine Route!

The Kettle Moraine Route is a 2 day ride where the first day's riding and scenery are much different than the second day.

Day 1 starts Northwest of Milwaukee and hugs the Lake Michigan shoreline as closely as possible. There are beautiful views of Lake Michigan and picturesque towns and cities along the way.

There are also 2 Wisconsin Rustic Roads identified on this leg. Be aware that they are NOT paved, so we have also provided a paved bypass for each of these roads.

The day one route zigs and zags along the Lake Michigan shoreline before turning inland at Sheboygan and ends in Plymouth, Wisconsin.

Day 2 begins with a short journey North for a quick ride past Road American, then turns South to join the Kettle Moraine Scenic Drive.

The Kettle Moraine Scenic Drive is a relaxing ride through the backroads of Eastern Wisconsin. The natural landforms result in gentle hills and smooth curves. However, you need to stay on your toes because of other traffic, farm equipment, and the occasional wild animal.

Near the end of the 2nd day are a couple of sights that riders will not want to miss. The first is a stop at the Basilica at Holy Hill. This beautiful church dominates the local landscape and is amazing to view from any side. If you are able, climb the 178 steps to the top of the tower for a panoramic view of the surrounding countryside.

The other cool stop in this area is the Paul Bobrowitz Spectacular Sculpture. This is an amazing sculpture garden with huge metal creations and a must-see in our opinion.

Although this is a great ride all summer, it is especially beautiful in the fall when the hardwood trees have changed to their fall colors.

Be sure to check out this great route, and all of our other trips at DriftlessRoadsUSA.com.

Thanks!!
